Very Happy We received hood in five days looks great and fully functional. There was an unexpected bonus we did not know the controls are on both sides very handy on island to have access on either side. The cost is less than half what we would have paid in retail store. Excellent product It works fine, you hardly hear the motor, the majority of noise is generated by the air sucked through the filter (no chance to avoid this). Minor problem: Once the thing is installed (that takes 3 people), there is no chance to access the interior of the chimney anymore (not even a small hole or cutout), you have to take it down again. Lights Stopped Working - No Support The lights stopped working, found on message boards that many people have the same problem. I tried contacting Cavalier multiple times with no reply. I have yet to talk to anyone at the company, I only get voice mail. I give it 2 stars because it looks good and the fan works good. But this is not, in my opinion, the highest quality product and there is no customer support. July 20, 2010

Eye Catcher Center Piece! We completely re-modeled our kitchen and added this hood vent. It is drop-dead gorgeous and everyone who ever steps foot into our kitchen asks about it! It is a true functioning exhaust fan. Love the controls on either side. The lights dim and the fan is adjustable. Easy to maintain and durable! Conversations not bothered by noise of lower fan settings. Lights on high are VERY bright! I would highly recommend this hood. :) June 29, 2009

What size island range hood would I need for a 30 inch 5 burner gas cooktop?

You should have at least a 36" range hood or more. Typically in a island installation, you will want to add at least 3" to each side of your cooktop width for optimum ventilation. The Cavaliere-Euro SV218D-I36 should work just fine for a 30" cooktop, especially considering the 900 CFM capability.

Can I use 8" round to duct this unit?

The Cavaliere-Euro SV218D-I36 is a hood that requires 6" ducting. If you would like to increase to 8" round that would be perfectly acceptable. You could use a piece like the Soler and Palau SR8-6 to make the transition.

how is it possible to push 900 cfm through a 6" pipe? 8" would normally be the minimun.

The smaller a pipe is, the louder the sound will be pushing through them. The hood is designed to vent through 6" pipe, though I do agree that 8" would be a better minimum.

Is the arch cover glass?

The Cavaliere-Euro SV218D-I36 has a glass cover.

Could you explain what a sone is?

Sones are a unit of sound measure that is used to rate appliances. A general rule of thumb is that 2 sones sounds the same as a modern refrigerator when it is running. The higher the sones the louder, the lower the quieter.

What size island chimney would we need to cover our 36" 5 burner gas cooktop?

You would typically use a 42" range hood over a 36" range top.

Would I be able to use this range hood with a 10-1/2' ceiling?

No, the maximum ceiling height is 10'

Approved for use in outdoor kitchen?

The Cavaliere-Euro SV218B2-I36 is approved only for indoor usage.

Can the range hood be installed between the floor joist from the above floor? We only have 90" ceiling and wanted to install this range hood, but needed the extra 2" in order to meet the 28" minimum.

You can as long as you have the clearance and your local building code allows.

How wide of stove top will this product cover?

The Cavaliere-Euro SV218D-I36 will work for a stove top that is approximately 34" in width or less.

I have a 104" ceiling. Do I need an extension duct cover?

I just called Cavaliere-Euro about their SV218D-I36 for a 104" ceiling and they told me we would need the chimney extension.
