Ensure your Cooking Space is Properly Vented

Range Hood Overview

Your range hood should be able to remove excess heat, steam, odor, and smoke from your cooking area. Consider the following list to determine which product is best suited for your kitchen:

  • Island mounted install directly above your counter or stovetop and are intended for kitchen island or peninsula setups.

  • Under cabinet hoods are installed underneath your kitchen cabinets directly above the cooktop. These are typically the most common type of range hood.

  • Wall mounted are installed against the wall and vent up towards the ceiling. These range hoods can create a modern look and feel.

  • Downdraft hoods are a great option for small kitchens, or rooms with exceptionally high ceilings. These can be less effective than other offerings, but what they might lack in performance they make up for in space saving and size.

  • Professional commercial hoods are high performance appliances that are a great option for restaurants or homes with restaurant-capable kitchens.

Lastly, any range hood you consider should be at least as wide as the cooking surface it will be installed above, therefore downsizing isn't recommended.

Maintenance tip: Periodically clean your vent hood filter. To do this, we recommend that you first remove and soak the filter in a degreasing solution (until the grease is dissolved). Next, wash it with warm soapy water to remove any traces of the degreaser. Lastly, run it through a normal cycle in your dishwasher.

**Note** If your unit has a charcoal filter, don't wash these. Just replace them when they lose their effectiveness (typically after 4 months).
